Palazzo
Ducale:
through hundreds of years of history, lived as the seat
of the Republic’s rulers and home to the Dogi family,
the “Palazzo Ducale di Genova”, after ten
years of restructuring work, is not just a historical
building, but an “intelligent” structure,
centre of ideas and the city’s cultural and social
initiatives.
Acquario
di Genova:
the largest aquarium in Europe: 71 tanks that reproduce
marine, lake and land environments. The aquarium has 600
species with over 6000 specimens of fish, reptiles, amphibians,
mammals, birds and invertebrates. A visit to the aquarium
is an emotional journey into the immensity of the sea
world discovering the friendly seals, the intelligent
dolphins, the awkward penguins, the disquieting calm sharks
and the sweet young sea puppies.
You can also take a “behind the scenes” look
at the work that goes into up-keeping the Aquarium.
La
Lanterna:
The monument that symbolises the city, over the centuries
it was used as a signalling tower, with armed guards, and
a stage for tightrope walkers and even a prison.
Today it is simply the “Lanterna”: symbol of
Genoa, a special lighthouse that identifies the city. 76
meters tall it consists of a tower on two arrangements of
square sections made from natural stone coming from the
caves of Carignano, with a terrace jutting out at the top
of both arrangements.
